Accelerating Retail Decision Intelligence with AI driven Analytics

Fractal

Retail organizations generate large volumes of data across sales, inventory, supply chain, promotions, and loyalty. Over time, BI environments evolve to support different teams and priorities. The result is often a mix of tools, overlapping dashboards, and inconsistent definitions. While reports help track performance, they struggle to keep up with frequent changes in business questions.

As retail teams become more data‑driven, they need more than static dashboards. They need the ability to explore data in the moment and ask follow‑up questions as conditions change.

Moving beyond dashboard‑only analytics

Modernizing retail analytics is not just about migrating data to a new platform. It is about re‑anchoring data, metrics, and semantics in one place so teams can rely on what they see. In this solution, legacy BI content is rationalized and core data is built on the Databricks Lakehouse. Curated datasets and shared KPI definitions form a trusted foundation.

This creates the baseline for both structured reporting and flexible analysis without introducing more tools.

How Databricks Genie changes the retail analytics experience

Databricks Genie adds a natural language layer on top of governed retail data. Business and analyst users can ask questions in plain English and explore curated datasets without writing queries or modifying reports. Genie supports cross‑domain exploration, allowing users to move across sales, supply chain, promotions, and loyalty data in a single flow.

Genie works alongside Databricks AI/BI Dashboards. Users review existing views and then ask follow‑up questions to understand what changed, compare patterns, or validate assumptions. Because Genie operates on shared definitions registered in Unity Catalog, insights remain consistent across teams. This makes analysis more conversational and keeps users focused on decisions, not tooling.

Balancing exploration and enterprise reporting

While Genie supports high‑change and exploratory workloads, enterprise reporting remains important. In this approach, critical dashboards are selectively migrated to Power BI for executive and operational use. Power BI handles standardized reporting, while Genie and AI/BI Dashboards support questions that change frequently.

Together, this creates a balanced analytics environment that supports consistency, flexibility, and scale. If you want to learn more about our solutions built on Genie, contact us.
