Modernizing Enterprise Analytics with Databricks Genie

Modernizing Enterprise Analytics with Databricks Genie

Fractal

Insurance organizations deal with complex data across products, policies, claims, and partners. Many analytics platforms are built for reporting stability, not for exploration. Dashboards answer planned questions, but they struggle when teams want to compare trends, investigate anomalies, or understand drivers behind performance changes. As datasets grow and use cases expand, the gap between data availability and usable insight becomes more visible.

This is especially true in B2B insurance, where analytical needs cut across claims, operations, and enterprise reporting.

Building a unified insurance analytics foundation

A modern insurance data platform needs to do two things well. It needs to consolidate data from multiple systems into a trusted foundation. It also needs to make that data easy to explore without increasing dependency on technical teams.

This solution is built on the Databricks Lakehouse using a medallion architecture. Raw insurance data is standardized, enriched, and curated into analytics‑ready datasets. Shared definitions and metrics are governed centrally, which creates a consistent view across teams and use cases.

With this foundation in place, analytics can move beyond static reporting.

Where Databricks Genie fits in

Databricks Genie provides a natural way for users to interact with curated insurance data. Instead of navigating dashboards alone, users can ask questions in plain language and explore results in real time. Genie works on top of governed datasets registered in Unity Catalog, so answers remain aligned with approved metrics and business definitions.

In this solution, Genie is used for exploratory analysis across claims, operations, and performance metrics. Users can ask why trends changed, compare segments, or follow up on results without rebuilding views. Genie can be used on its own or alongside existing dashboards, making it easier to move from observation to understanding during reviews and discussions.

This changes how insurance teams engage with data day to day.

Supporting both reporting and exploration

While Genie enables flexible analysis, enterprise reporting remains important. In this solution, critical datasets are also made available for executive and operational reporting through Power BI. This allows the organization to support stable reporting needs while giving analysts and business users a more interactive way to explore data when questions change.

The result is a balanced analytics environment that supports governance, scale, and agility. If you want to learn more about our solutions built on Genie, contact us.
